About Me

Welcome! I haven’t been able to add to the blog as much as I would like to over the years, but I aim to at least keep the About Me page up to date.

I am the most inspired when I’m spending my time building with people who are passionate and excited. I get excited about working on challenges in the Internet, Security, and Privacy space. I am equally interested in broad and complex challenges that go beyond solving a technical problem. I like working with a variety of teams (Engineering, Product, Legal, Sales, etc) to move an organization in a positive direction. I’m highly mission driven. I gravitate towards people that challenge the status quo and are able to adapt and innovate as their environment evolves. I enjoy strategic thinking and having the opportunity to both define and help solve challenges.

Currently, I am a Security Engineering Manager at Semgrep. We are building an application security platform that will help Security teams enable their organizations to build more secure software. It’s a great team taking on an ambitious mission and I love it!

I was an Engineering Manager on a small, but impactful Security team at Sentry, an open source application performance monitoring tool that is helping developers around the world solve problems quickly.

Before Sentry, I was a Senior Security Engineer at Cloudflare, a global network that builds innovative security and performance solutions. I was on the first iteration of the Security team there and was given the opportunity to work with some truly amazing people. The opportunity to build the Security team at Cloudflare was a unique experience. We had to creatively scale our programs and efforts as the company went through hyper-growth during the pandemic. I was able to help build Detection and Response functions and processes from the ground up. We had to be scrappy, creative, and highly collaborative during this build stage. It was an awesome team and I’m very grateful for that experience.

I’ve spoken at Bsides Berlin and have had conference talks accepted to both Bsides and OWASP. I have an undergraduate degree from UCSD (University of California, San Diego) in Biology, with minors in Global/Public Health and Computer Science. I also have a Masters degree from Santa Clara University in Computer Science and Engineering. I knew I found the craft that I would dedicate myself to after spending a summer in Jordon, Amman volunteering for the WHO and UNICEF where I discovered that the SEA (Syrian Electronic Army) was using malware on mobile devices to spy. I haven’t looked back since then.

I love that I get to spend my life learning and working in the Security industry.

I enjoy spending time with family and friends, working out (basketball, running, lifting, swimming in salt water pools, yoga), reading (I lean towards non-fiction, economics, and historical non-fiction, but I’m open to highly recommended fiction and sci-fi), watching basketball (I’m a Warriors fan), and learning new things (most recently, I joined a ceramics class and started archery).
